American Cancer Society

For Our Community

The American Cancer Society counts Danville Regional Medical Center as a vital community partner in the fight against cancer.

In 2013, the American Cancer Society was actively recruiting volunteers to participate in a long-term research effort called Cancer Prevention Study – 3 (CPS3). CPS3 will provide a better understanding of how lifestyle, genetics, and the environment affect cancer and how we can better prevent the disease. DRMC became an important partner for the American Cancer Society as they sought volunteers to reach their nationwide goal of 300,000 participants. DRMC agreed to become an Enrollment Site – which made it very easy for interested parties to sign up and participate in this important research. Not only was the site provided, but DRMC staff was actively involved in the effort by direct participation and/or assisting in spreading the word. The support that the ACS received from DRMC ensured their success as the nationwide goal was reached and exceeded!

The largest fundraising effort for the American Cancer Society in Danville is the Relay For Life. Again, DRMC provides support as a major sponsor as well as encouraging staff to get involved with teams
and survivorship activities. Funds raised through the Relay For Life help the ACS provide grants to promising researchers while also providing assistance to cancer patients and their loved ones. American Cancer Society patient service programs including Reach to Recovery, Road to Recovery, and Look Good Feel Better are promoted and supported by DRMC.
