To the editor:
The greater Danville-Pittsylvania area is indeed fortunate to have quality health care provided to the region by Danville Regional Medical Center. The people of the area are well served by the medical staff and the care that they provide.
Their commitment to continue to better serve the region is very clear as they have proposed expanded access to affordable quality health care to its medical services in Chatham. Under new leadership beginning in 2010, Danville Regional made a renewed commitment to better serve the region to bring comprehensive health care to all of Danville and Pittsylvania County. I am pleased that Danville Regional is working diligently to make this commitment a reality. Expanding its services in Chatham with a new CT scanner will allow Danville Regional to better served the patients of Pittsylvania.
According to an economic impact study from 2010, Danville Regional has an estimated annual economic impact of more than $180 million and is the second largest private employer in Danville and Pittsylvania County, directly employing more than 1,475 individuals. Working with local providers to grow operations in Chatham will allow Danville Regional to expand quality care in the county while enhancing the economic impact of the hospital for the many employed directly and indirectly through Danville Regional.
The new CT scanner in Chatham will expand access to care and is just one part of a comprehensive plan Danville Regional has put in place and is fulfilling each day in order to provide comprehensive health care in our region.
I applaud and commend each and every effort to provide top quality health care within the region. This proposal should be supported and approved by all.
