A Year in Review 2011 - Accomplishments

  • DukeExpanded relationship with Duke University Health System, formalizing a comprehensive hospital patient safety and quality affiliation (to include addition of a new patient safety officer).
  • New logo unveiled as a visible sign of the new affiliation between Danville Regional Medical Center and Duke University Health System.
  • gold sealProud Recipient of Two Prestigious Awards – Gold Award from the American College of Cardiology Foundation’s NCDR ACTION Registry–GWTG Gold Performance Achievement Award for 2011 and the Silver Award from the Get With The Guidelines®–Heart Failure Silver Quality Achievement Award from the American Heart Association.silver seal
  • Enrolled 35 residents in the DRMC Medical Residency program.
  • The nDanville Medical Network received the Founder’s Award, presented by the Intelligent Community Forum, for the City of Danville’s high speed fiber optic Internet network which gives the ability for information from the hospital to be shared with at least half of the physicians in the city instantly.
  • Provided a total of 60 scholarships worth $500,000 over five years to Danville Community College’s (DCC) nursing program.
  • Donating $500,000 over the next three years to Averett University’s health sciences initiative.
  • Added 24 new physicians to provide care in family medicine, internal medicine, orthopedics, cardiology, cardiovascular & thoracic surgery, urology, ophthalmology, anesthesiology, emergency medicine and hospital medicine.
  • Invested over $250,000 in our community by way of sponsorships and partnerships involving the YMCA, Danville Cancer Association, American Cancer Association, Alzheimer’s Association, Free Clinic of Danville, Downtown Danville Associates, Piedmont Access to Health Services (PATHS), God’s Storehouse, House of Hope, and Boys and Girls Club to name a few.
  • Opened 4 New Physician Clinics: Family Healthcare Center – Brosville, Southside Internal Medicine, Family Urgent Care Center Danville & DRMC Family Medicine Residency Continuity Clinic.
  • Child Development CenterThe Child Development Center was the first in the State of Virginia to receive the new two year license under the State’s new guidelines.
  • 2011 Showcase Magazine RAVE Award Recipients for “Best Healthcare Provider”, “Best Day Care Center”, and “Best Walk-In Medical Center”
  • 2011 Star Tribune’s Reader’s Choice Award – “Best Hospital” and “Best Pre-School”
    “Best in Show” at the 2011 Danville Pittsylvania County Chamber for Commerce annual Southside Show-Biz Trade Show.

New and Expanded Services in 2011

  • Heart CenterThe Danville Heart and Vascular Center at Danville Regional Medical Center is a Duke Medicine-affiliated heart program providing cardiothoracic and vascular surgery, as well as diagnostic and interventional procedures with support for program development and quality oversight from the Duke Heart Center. Duke Medicine is a globally recognized leader in heart care and is ranked among one of the nation’s best heart programs year after year.
  • Spinal reconstructive surgery for adults and children as well as surgery for traumatic spinal injuries.
  • Enhanced the spectrum of services related to treatment of infectious diseases.
  • Invested more than $2 million in a CT scanner and MRI unit to provide patients faster and more efficient imaging and scanning at Danville Diagnostic Imaging Center (DDIC). DDIC was also award the 2011 Leadership Service Industry Award from the Southern Piedmont Technology Council.
  • Hotel-style room service for patient meals was made available to all patients. Room Service gives patients more flexibility, as a patient can order a meal (breakfast, lunch and dinner) when he or she feels like eating. Also opened a new Subconnection restaurant in main lobby.
  • Valet Parking added to provide our patients and their families’ convenient access to the hospital.
  • Wellness Works Program added. Wellness Works is a new employee health program designed to work hand-in-hand with helping local employers with their many employee health needs as well as assist in controlling costs associated with rising workers’ compensation and general healthcare costs.
  • Invested $500,000 in Women’s & Children’s Center for renovations including upgrades to maternity rooms, new appliances and interior décor.
